Language Note - 'they' vs 'he/she'
For hundreds of years, it has been common in English to use "they" to refer to individuals - in place of "he/she", etc. (especially when we want to include more than one gender). For example: A) Find someone who cleaned up his/her room yesterday. B) Find someone who cleaned up their room yesterday. Although 'A' (above) is correct (and sometimes used), it can sometimes sound awkward. 'B' (above) is also correct. |
